Careers Support

Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG)

We strongly believe that our students should all have access to high quality careers education, advice and guidance through all years and particularly at key transition times to explore the full range of opportunities available to them.

All students have access to impartial careers guidance from an independent Careers Adviser from Directions IAG Ltd, a matrix accredited careers organisation.  Mrs Burrows is our Careers Adviser and offers independent advice and guidance to students and parents, to give support with making informed decisions about your future.  Mrs Burrows, along with Ms Henderson from the school, is also our Careers Leader.

The current CEAIG policy can be downloaded here.

To contact Mrs Burrows for information or to request an appointment, please either ring her at the school on 01245 473611 or email directions@sandon.essex.sch.uk.

Provider Access Policy Statement

What is it?
This is information about different providers and the approved technical qualifications or apprenticeships on offer as well as careers to which those technical education qualifications or apprenticeships might lead.  This information will describe what learning or training with each provider is like and gives an opportunity for students to ask questions they may have about these options.

In line with the latest legislation, The Sandon School provides at least two encounters per key stage with different providers to ensure students have a good knowledge and understanding of the range of technical and vocation routes available.  These activities will take place in assemblies, group activities or bespoke careers events, as well as activities within our Careers Plan.

Opportunities for Access
A number of events organised as part of the school careers programme offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to students and/or their parents.  Examples of previous providers who have visited the school include:

  • Colchester Institute
  • Writtle University College
  • Chelmsford College
  • University of Essex
  • Hertford College, Oxford
  • First Intuition (Accountancy Training Provider)
  • Hill & Co (Construction Management)
  • NHS

We also offer a range of virtual work experiences and employer engagement encounters.

Premises and facilities
The school will make the hall, classrooms or private meeting rooms available for discussions between the provider and students, as appropriate to the activity. The school will also make available AV and other specialist equipment to support provider presentations. This will all be discussed and agreed with the Careers Adviser in advance of the visit.

Procedure
A provider wishing to request access to students, staff or parents should contact Mrs Burrows by ringing the school on 01245 473611 or by emailing directions@sandon.essex.sch.ukProviders are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature with Mrs Burrows.
