Key Stage 3
History is the study of human activity in the past. In year 7, students focus on a variety of topics within the Medieval period (c1000 to c1500). Some case studies include: William the Conqueror and the Norman Conquest, the Black Death, the Peasants’ Revolt, the Crusades and even Medieval Islamic Civilisations. Students will be asked to consider significant questions such as: ‘how did medieval people live in this period?’ as well as other key debates such as: ‘how successful were medieval monarchs at keeping their power?’ Students will learn how to structure their arguments and will develop their ability to support their own opinions with evidence. In year 7, students will tackle interpretations, reliability and bias in historical sources. Independent research is actively encouraged. Students will study History until the end of year 9, after which they will then have the opportunity to take the subject at GCSE.
