Sandon Take Gold & Silver at the Essex County Table Tennis Championships

This year Sandon had four Year 8 boys entered into the Essex Schools U13 County Table Tennis finals.   Jenson Davis and Finley Bailey both played well but didn’t progress through the early Group stages.  However Ewan Hynd was the star of those early rounds as he came through unbeaten.  Along with Ewan, Ben Porter progressed but only after he had recovered from an early loss.  This meant he had the tougher draw in the knockout stages.

Ewan progressed through the knockout stages with some aplomb to reach his first County Final.  Ben also progressed to the Final, but only after he had avenged his earlier victor with a 2-1 win in the semi final.  So for the first time ever we had an all Sandon County Final – an amazing achievement from the boys.

Ben prevailed in the Final to win his second County title, and will now represent Sandon and Essex County at the Schools National Finals in Nottingham later in the year.   This is the third County Gold medal Sandon has achieved in the last three years, but the first individual medal.

Congratulations to all the boys that took part and represented the school so well, and good luck to Ben in the Nationals.
