Economics

Statement of Intent

In the current economic climate of political upheaval and uncertainty our purpose is to empower students in developing an interest in and enthusiasm for economics, developing their appreciation of the contribution of economics to understanding the wider economic and social environment.  Through rigorous study students will confidently develop their analytical and quantitative skills, together with qualities and attitudes that will equip them for the challenges, opportunities and responsibilities of adult and working life.

KS5     Students are introduced to economics through building knowledge of core microeconomic and macroeconomic concepts, and by investigating economic theory through real-world businesses and the environments in which they operate.  Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding with applications to more complex concepts and models are developed in the second year of study.  Students will need to apply their knowledge and understanding to both familiar and unfamiliar contexts in the assessment and demonstrate an awareness of current economic events and policies.

Other resources   -  Individual notes given out to support learning with core studies, students can purchase a textbook to supplement lesson content work. Students prepare personalised revision sheets throughout the course and can use study periods and homework time to review lesson content and develop a thorough bank of resources for use when they need to revise.

Extra curricular opportunities:

  • Speakers for Schools visits
  • Economics trip to New York in KS5
