CASUAL COVER SUPERVISOR

The Sandon School is an over-subscribed 11-18 mixed comprehensive  with an excellent reputation in the local area.  We have superb facilities and view ourselves as an innovative teaching and learning community.  The school is situated close to the A12 on the east side of Chelmsford within easy reach of Chelmsford, Colchester, Southend and Brentwood and has good public transport links.

We require as soon as possible someone to join our staff as a Classroom Cover Supervisor here at The Sandon School on a casual ‘as required’ basis.  This position would suit someone who does not want to be tied to specific days or hours but who ideally has some flexibility with their time and could be available, possibly at short notice, to come into school when needed.

The successful applicant will have an important role in school supervising classes during a teacher’s short-term absence as students complete work set by a teacher.  Cover supervisors do not teach students - they help them to understand what it is they need to do to complete the work set, they manage students’ behaviour, keep the learning environment purposeful and safe and deal with any issues as they arise.

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given.  However, the ideal candidate is likely to have good general knowledge, be able to demonstrate the ability to engage students in learning, be confident applying the school’s policies in a firm and fair manner and be an excellent communicator and role model.

Pay will be calculated on a timesheet basis and paid in arrears.  The current hourly rate is £12.02 - £12.70 per hour (pay award pending), which is equivalent to Scale 5, pts 9-12 with a full-time equivalent salary of £23,194 - £24,496 including holiday pay.
