Duke of Edinburgh Award

Recently a group of 18 Sandon students spent a very long and wet weekend on their practice expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award. The participants had to walk 60km carrying everything they needed to be self-sufficient over the three-day expedition. The weather was especially unkind as the groups arrived at base camp in Lambourne end Friday evening. The heavens opened just as tents were being pitched forcing everyone to run for cover. Despite the rain, spirits remained high and participants made the most of their free time, cooking on Trangias, playing cards, and visiting the local farm.

It was on weary legs and blistered feet that the groups arrived at the final checkpoint on Sunday afternoon having successfully completed the hike.

Everyone is already looking forward to the final expedition in the New Forest.
