Music

Statement of Intent

Music at The Sandon School encourages an integrated approach to the three disciplines of performing, composing and appraising through the curriculum we study. Our broad and balanced curriculum is designed to develop students’ knowledge and skills through the study of a variety of genres, styles and traditions. All students approach their learning through fun, practical music making, ensuring their engagement and further embedding their musical knowledge. Our underlining ethos is to promote resilience, confidence and a love for learning in which students are supported to explore new ideas. Alongside curriculum lessons, a wide range of extra-curricular activities is available, to further enrich and enhance students’ personal growth and musical development.

Beyond the classroom     -

Music run 14 extra-curricular clubs per week (nearly all instruments have their own individual ensemble) and a schedule of these is contained on our extra-curricular timetable. All ensembles will perform in the Christmas Concert and the Summer Festival ‘SanFest’ . Year 7 students and selected Young Music Leaders/Young Singing Leaders will participate in the Year 7 Concert, and all KS4 and KS5 Music students perform in the Recital Evening.  Once every two years the Music, Drama and Dance departments work together to produce a musical. In addition to our shows, students have access to our excellent facilities including seven practice rooms all containing speakers and pianos which can be used for solo or ensemble work at breaks or lunches and before or after school.
